USAGE GUIDE AND TIPS:
(This herbal hair oil can be used in 4 powerful ways! Incorporating steam during any treatment helps your hair to receive every drop of hydration, nourishment and detangling ease)
PRE-POO TREATMENT:
This step is a secret weapon for curly textured hair — it helps protect your strands from moisture loss during washing while improving manageability and detangling. Gentle and non-gentle shampoos can strip away your natural oils. A pre-poo treatment creates a protective barrier that keeps your curls hydrated and strong through every wash. Start on slightly damp hair then evenly divide your hair into sections for easy coverage. Apply the oil generously (in addition to any other product of your choice) and focus on your ends first — they’re the oldest and most fragile. Detangle gently and use your fingers or a wide-tooth comb to detangle from ends to roots. Cover your hair and use a plastic cap and let it sit for 20–40 minutes. For best results, use steam or a warm towel to soften your strands and allow deeper penetration. Finally, rinse and cleanse as usual. This treatment helps prevent moisture loss during washing and makes detangling effortless.
- Wavy Hair Tip (2A–2C): Use a small amount and focus mainly on your ends to prevent buildup.
- Curly Hair Tip (3A–3C): Use a moderate amount of oil and detangle with your fingers while the oil coats your curls.
- Coily Hair Tip (4A–4C): Apply generously, ensuring every strand is coated — steam will help lift and hydrate the cuticle layers for smoother detangling.
You’ll notice less breakage, easier detangling, and hair that feels softer after every wash.
HOT OIL TREATMENT:
Ideal for dry, brittle, or dull hair in need of deep rejuvenation. If you'd like to use the Herbal Hair Oil as a hot oil treatment, we suggest gently warming the bottle by placing it in a bowl of warm (not boiling hot) water for a few minutes. This method helps preserve the integrity of the ingredients while enhancing the treatment experience. Use your choice of any additional product you'd like to effectively enhance your wash day. Apply the oil evenly from scalp to ends, gently massaging your scalp in circular motions to stimulate blood flow and growth. Proceed to then cover your hair with a plastic cap and sit under a steamer (which helps with detangling and deeper penetration) or warm towel for 20-30 minutes. Finally, rinse thoroughly and proceed with your wash day. This treatment is perfect for restoring moisture, elasticity and overall scalp health.
For Wavy Hair (2A–2C):
- Use a light layer of oil to avoid weighing waves down.
- Warm a small amount in your hands and smooth it from mid-length to ends.
- Cover with a plastic cap and use gentle steam or a warm towel for 15–20 minutes (if needed).
- Rinse with a mild shampoo or co-wash for bounce and shine.
For Curly to Coily Hair (3A–4C):
- Apply the oil section by section from scalp to ends, massaging it in.
- Use a plastic cap and sit under a steamer or hooded dryer for 20–30 minutes.
- Rinse thoroughly, then follow with conditioner.
Steam helps soften tighter curls and coils, making them easier to detangle and style later.
DEEP CONDITIONING TREATMENT:
Enhance your deep conditioner by adding a few drops of this herbal oil for extra nourishment. Add 1–2 tablespoons of oil with your deep conditioner (depending on hair porosity) of choice then apply to freshly washed, damp hair in sections. Use steam or a heated cap for 30-45 minutes to open the cuticle and help nutrients absorb. Finally, rinse well and style as usual.
This step helps restore elasticity and moisture balance, leaving curls springy and soft for ALL hair types but the type and frequency of deep conditioning should vary depending on your hair’s needs, texture, and porosity.
(While it’s great for all hair types, deep conditioning can cause issues when generally used TOO much. Too much deep conditioning of any product can create buildup or stiffness (called “protein overload”). Also, when no heat or steam is used on low porosity hair then the deep conditioning may just sit on top of strands, leaving hair feeling coated rather than nourished.)
- Straight to Fine Hair (1A-1C)
Use light-rinse out treatments to avoid heaviness. Use every four weeks or monthly.
- Wavy Hair (2A–2C):
Still benefits, but less frequently. Once or twice a month is usually enough. Over-conditioning can weigh down waves, making them limp or greasy if the formula is too rich. You can use with steam with lightweight or hydrating products.
- Curly, Coily, and Kinky Hair (3A–4C):
Deep conditioning weekly or biweekly is essential because this hair type naturally produces less sebum (natural oil) from the scalp, making it prone to dryness and breakage. Regular treatments keep it hydrated, elastic, and manageable. Always use steam for best absorption.
- Color-Treated or Chemically Processed Hair:
Deep conditioning restores the moisture and protein balance that coloring or relaxing tends to strip away.
- High Porosity Hair:
Needs frequent deep conditioning to help fill in the gaps in the hair shaft and reduce frizz.
- Low Porosity Hair:
Also benefits, especially with steam or heat, because warmth opens the tightly sealed cuticle and allows the conditioner to penetrate.
STYLER:
This oil seals in your moisture and adds a natural sheen while keeping your hair fed with the natural ingredients. Apply a few drops to damp or dry hair after styling or moisturizing. Smooth through mid-lengths and ends to lock in hydration and tame frizz. Perfect for twist-outs, braids, wash-and-go's, and protective styles. You can use the LCO or LOC method for tighter textures.
Light enough for daily use and rich enough to protect your strands from dryness and humidity.
WHY STEAM MAKES A DIFFERENCE:
Steam transforms your treatments from surface care to deeper care and therapy leading into restoration of the roots when used with a proper regimen. The warmth gently opens the hair cuticle, allowing moisture and nutrients to sink into each strand.
Hydration: Helps bind water molecules to the hair shaft.
Moisture Lock: Seals in hydration for lasting softness.
Detangling: Softens curls and coils, reducing knots and breakage.
